Have you had the chance to read up on Bridgeland yet? If you’re exploring neighborhoods near Houston, it should be on your short list.
Bridgeland is one of Houston’s fastest growing master-planned communities, and the latest from the renowned Howard Hughes Corporation.
The community is meant to provide residents with the feeling of living in a parkland resort, and it succeeds. The Bridgeland neighborhood is focused on sustainable development, neighborly engagement, and outdoor recreation.
While Bridgeland is part of the greater Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metro area it has a community and culture that is all its own.
The 11,401-acre community is much more than a neighborhood, as it feels closer to a small town. It already features designated schools, small commercial areas, and places of worship within its borders. As the development continues to grow, Bridgeland will be a self-contained community with a strong sense of place.
Bridgeland’s Environmental Stewardship
The master-planned community features 3,000 acres of open space within the development’s borders, as well as 500 acres of lakes and waterways with plans for an additional 400 acres to be added as the community grows.
The open space in the community is protected, and developers have researched the best strategies to preserve and restore the natural prairie landscape, so that, as Bridgeland matures, generations will be able to live near the natural landscape and continue to serve as stewards.
In addition to the vast open space areas, living in Bridgeland offers residents convenient access to places of worship, schools, park, and activity centers. Every home in Bridgeland is within just ¼ mile of a park, providing convenient trips for growing families.
Outdoor Recreation
Working in congress with the natural landscape, Bridgeland’s master plan implements an overall trail plan throughout the four villages, commercial areas, and green spaces. In total, Bridgeland will feature 250 miles of interconnecting trails.
These will range from busy sidewalks where children can easily bike to school to quiet nature trails offering views of vast prairie landscapes and wildlife.
Bridgeland Trails
The two most notable trails in Bridgeland’s master plan are the House-Hahl Trail and the Cypress Creek Nature Trail.
- House-Hahl Trail
The House-Hahl Trail will eventually span across the entire community. Currently, just one mile is complete, but it already features workout stations throughout its path.
2. Cypress Creek Nature Trail
The Cypress Creek Nature Trail runs along the Cypress Creek Corridor. While it’s currently just 2.5 miles long, upon completion it will be over 6 miles, and wind through both prairie landscapes and densely wooded areas.
The trailhead is located in Oak Meadow Park, which is a 30-acre wooded refuge within the community between Cypress Lake and Cypress Creek, featuring picnic areas, a pavilion, and an 18-hole disc golf course.
Bridgeland Paddlesports
In addition to the great trails, residents have access to Bridgeland’s lakes and waterways for paddlesports and catch and release fishing. Bridgeland even has public kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats for all residents to use at their leisure.
On the quiet waters within the community, outdoor enthusiasts can witness more than 140 different species of migratory birds and other wildlife.
Community Life
The hiking and biking trails through Bridgeland’s 3,000 acres of greenspace offer residents convenient access to the solitude and peaceful serenity of outdoor recreation.

Residents have access to a 6,000-square-foot activity center, and more than 30 monthly classes organized by the community’s full-time activities director. These include classes for all ages and over a wide variety of interests, including arts and crafts, fishing, and workout classes like Boot Camp, Pilates, and Yoga.

As with many other communities, an active social life is often one of the keys to happiness. Bridgeland supports this by hosting over a dozen various community groups. These range from Garden Clubs, Paddling Groups, Disc Golf Club, Empty Nesters, various Book Clubs, and Mommy and Me groups.
Youth camps are also a staple in the community, and Bridgeland offers tennis camps, YMCA Summer Camp, and Youth Soccer Camp.
Shopping and Dining
Bridgeland is located within one of the fastest-growing corridors in the Houston area. Its location offers quick access to expressways and ample options for shopping and dining. Eventually, residents won’t need to leave their community for day to day errands, however.
The master plan accounts for two distinct levels of commercial areas scattered across the development. The first is small village centers, within each of the four villages. The village centers will host restaurants, coffee shops, markets, and even doctors’ offices and salons. The second commercial area is in Bridgeland Central, where the schools, hospitals, and eventually large-scale entertainment and shopping options will be located.
Places of Worship
Bridgeland’s master plan also accounted for multiple places of worship within its borders. Currently, Bridgeland is home to The Foundry’s Fry Road Campus, featuring a modern Methodist congregation, as well as Houston’s First Baptist Church.
More places of worship are on the way. The Church of Latter-Day Saints is set to enter the community in the near future with a Church already planned, and more real estate has been set aside for places of Worship as Bridgeland grows.
